WAGERING BOXING
Wagering boxing was once a noble and proud sporting tradition here in the US. In the 1800’s and even through the first half of the 20th century boxing and wagering boxing was one of the top sporting attractions in America. Times have certainly changed since then and nowadays boxing and wagering boxing have been relegated to second-class status, if that. There are many reasons why the sport is in decline and no the least of which is the tarnished image it has suffered as a result of myriad scandals that have engulfed boxing and even more dramatically, wagering boxing. It is perhaps a sad day for boxing and there are few who would not agree that wagering boxing is in the sunset of the of its existence, likely to fizzle out in the next few decades.
Wagering boxing was once one the key attractions in when it came to sports betting but too much tawdry and ruthless behavior associated with the sport and the people close to it have run off fans and repelled sport bettors who once enjoyed wagering boxing. At the turn of the century boxing as a sport and the process of wagering boxing were still pure to an extent, or at least that was the common perception among the public. But as the sport began to grow in popularity and boxing personalities grew into global celebrities and often the most recognizable faces on the planet huge amounts of money begin floating into the sports. Promoters, bettors, managers all the circus that is involved with the sport today inched their way into big time professional boxing and money spoiled the entire affair.
Once the mob became involved with wagering boxing and other promotional elements of the sport greed and scandal seemed to fall. Other sporting leagues begin to develop and gain popular followings and the pugilistic arts seemed to fall from grace in the public’s eye. Today wagering boxing and the entire boxing industry in general is but a shell of what it once was. There are no compelling fires left in their prime in the professional ranks anymore and there is no real hope coming through the amateur ranks or performing at the Olympic games anymore.
